Nxai Pan National Park safari tours
Encompassing more than 2,500 square kilometres to the north of Makgadikgadi Pans, Nxai Pan is one of Botswana’s lesser-known safari destinations. It centres around a waterless fossil pan that is now covered with grass and surrounded by acacia and baobab-dotted islands. It is the traditional homeland of the San people and takes its name from the word “Nxa”, which refers to a curved stick that is used to dig out springhares.
Nxai Pan National Park is particularly spectacular following the rains when its landscapes turn a vibrant green, with the lush, new shoots attracting an abundance of wildlife. In addition to migratory zebras and wildebeest, Nxai Pan is renowned for its pride of lions, which can often be seen lazing in the grasslands.
