Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Uganda Gorilla Trekking | African Safaris | Vencha Travel

Situated on the edge of the Albertine Rift in southwestern Uganda, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is home to around half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. Along with Virunga National Park in neighbouring Rwanda, it’s become the centrepiece of gorilla tourism in the region, with guided treks offering up-close encounters with these majestic creatures.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is comprised of both montane and lowland forest that’s only accessible on foot, with not only mountain gorillas but also African elephants, black and white colobus, red-tailed monkeys and African civet calling the park “home”. More than 350 bird species have been recorded within its bounds, as have over 200 different species of butterflies.

While it might not be as well known as the Serengeti or Maasai Mara for its safari experiences, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a biodiversity hotspot and boasts one of the richest communities of fauna in East Africa. Trekking to see its mountain gorillas is one of those “bucket list” experiences and an easy addition to any Kenya-Tanzania safari
