Queen Elizabeth National Park is the most-visited national park in Uganda and it’s easy to understand why. It boasts dramatic landscapes, an exceptional birdlife and some of the most incredible wildlife encounters East Africa has to offer.
Situated in the far west of Uganda, Queen Elizabeth National Park sprawls across almost 2,000 square kilometres of grasslands, crater lakes and volcanic cones. African buffalo, bush elephants and hippopotamus all call the park “home”, as do big cats such as leopards and lions. In fact, the Rukungiri District is famed for its tree-climbing lions, with the males instantly recognisable due to their black manes.
Bird watchers will find no shortage of inspiration, with over 500 different species recorded here. Ugandan kob and giant forest hogs are some of the lesser-known species to inhabit the park, making it an ideal destination for travellers wanting to tick more than just the “Big Five” off their list.
