Providing the backdrop to the Great Wildebeest Migration, the Serengeti National Park is one of Tanzania’s most famous wildlife destinations and a highlight of the Northern Circuit. It encompasses more than 14,000 square kilometres of savannah, woodlands and riverine forests that provide a habitat for high concentrations of wildlife and birdlife.
Aside from incredible encounters with lions, cheetahs and leopards, the Serengeti National Park is also home to the “Big Five” and visited by huge herds of wildebeest and zebras during the annual migration season. There are also healthy populations of hippos, impala and Masai giraffe while more than 500 species of birds have been recorded within the park.
