When to Go

Best time to visit the Serengeti National Park

The dry season from June to October is generally considered the best time to visit the Serengeti National Park, with thinner vegetation and limited water sources making wildlife easier to spot. June and July are the best months to visit if you want to experience the Great Wildebeest Migration, with the herds gathering along the banks of the Grumeti River before making the precarious crossing of its crocodile-filled waters. Sunny skies and little rainfall mean it’s ideal for being out and about on game drives, with fewer mosquitoes around the lodge in the evenings.

Light rains fall across the Serengeti region from November through to March, although these short downpours are usually followed by clear, sunny skies and shouldn’t interfere with your travel plans. Heavier downpours are experienced between March and May, although this is an ideal time for twitchers to visit as migratory birds flock to the region from Europe and Asia.
