Tanzania boasts excellent connectivity through various international airlines. While Kilimanjaro International Airport is the closest for reaching the Serengeti, Dar Es Salaam and Zanzibar also offer alternative options. Upon arriving at any of these international airports, a domestic flight will be required to reach the Serengeti National Park.
Depending on the timing of your international flight arrival, it may be necessary to stay overnight in Arusha, Dar Es Salaam, or Zanzibar before flying to the Serengeti the following day. In this guide, we provide comprehensive details about flight arrivals at each airport, connecting domestic flight information, recommended hotels for overnight stays, and ground transfer options. Arrival from Kilimanjaro International (JRO)
Kilimanjaro International Airport is served by several reputable airlines, including Condor, Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways, KLM, Lufthansa, Qatar Airways, Precision Air, Safarilink, Turkish Airlines, RwandAir, and Fly Dubai. If your international flight arrives before 11:00 am, you have the opportunity to make a same-day connection to Sasakwa Airstrip in the Serengeti (subject to a minimum of 2 passengers being booked on the flight). The flight duration from Kilimanjaro International to Lobo Airstrip is approximately one hour. For arrivals before 10:15 am, there is also an option for a one-hour land transfer to Arusha Airport, from where you can board a connecting flight to Lobo Serengeti at 1:00 pm.
If your international flight arrival time does not allow for a same-day connection to Lobo Airstrip, our Safari Experts will gladly assist you in arranging a one-hour road transfer to the nearby town of Arusha for an overnight stay. The next morning, flights to Lobo can begin as early as 7:45 am.

Arrival from Julius Nyerere International in Dar Es Salaam (DAR)
Julius Nyerere International Airport operates flights from various airlines, including Egypt Air, Emirates, Ethiopian Airlines, Etihad, FlyDubai, Kenya Airways, Malawian Airlines, Precision Air, Qatar Airways, Air France, and Turkish Airlines.
For international flight arrivals before 7:30 am, you can board a connecting flight to Lobo Airstrip from the airport's domestic terminal, which is just a five-minute taxi ride away from the international terminal. The flight duration is approximately two hours. Alternatively, you can connect through domestic flights to Kilimanjaro International.
If your international flight arrives too late for a same-day connection, our Africa Experts can arrange airport transfers to your chosen accommodation for an overnight stay. The following day, an early morning flight from the airport's domestic terminal will take you to the Serengeti.

Arrival from Zanzibar International
Zanzibar International Airport is serviced by multiple airlines, including Air France, KLM, Eurowings, FlyDubai, Kenya Airways, Qatar Airways, Precision Air, Oman Air, Ethiopian Airlines, and Turkish Airlines. If your international flight lands before 8 am, you can connect to a domestic flight to the Serengeti on the same day. However, if your arrival is after 8 am, you will need to spend the night in Zanzibar and catch an early morning flight the next day.

There are numerous beach resorts on the island of Zanzibar for you to choose from. For the convenience of an overnight stay, Stone Town, the capital city, is located just a 10-minute drive from the airport.
Arrival from Nairobi Airport (Jomo Kenyatta International)
Jomo Kenyatta International Airport is well-connected, serving airlines such as Air Mauritius, British Airways, China Southern, Egypt Air, Emirates, Ethiopian Airlines, Etihad, Fastjet, FlyDubai, Kenya Airways, and KLM. If your international flight lands in Nairobi before 7:00 am, you have the option to connect to a domestic flight to Lobo. Alternatively, you can board a short flight to Kilimanjaro International and connect to Lobo Airstrip on the same day (as mentioned above). For later arrivals into Nairobi, it is possible to take a late afternoon flight to Kilimanjaro International. From there, our Africa Experts will assist you with airport transfers and overnight accommodation arrangements in Arusha.
Alternatively, you can choose to spend the night in Nairobi and catch an early morning flight to Kilimanjaro International, connecting onward to Lobo Airstrip. If your international flight arrives in Nairobi by early afternoon, there is also an option for a private charter flight directly to Lobo on the same day (refer to our private Charters Flights section).

Domestic Flight Connections to the Serengeti
Taasa Lodge is situated within the Ololosokwan private game reserve, just a 30-minute drive from the Lobo Airstrip. There are four main airports in Tanzania offering connecting flights to Lobo Airstrip: Arusha Airport (ARK), Julius Nyerere International in Dar Es Salaam (DAR), Kilimanjaro International (JRO), and Zanzibar (ZNZ).
Arrival from Arusha Airport (ARK)
Arusha Airport offers several daily flights to Lobo Airstrip, operated by local airlines. The latest departure time is currently scheduled at 1:00 pm, and the direct flight takes approximately 90 minutes.
Arrival from Kilimanjaro (JRO)
Depending on demand, morning flights are available from Kilimanjaro to the Serengeti, with the latest departure at 11 am. Alternatively, ground transfers can be arranged to Arusha, from where further domestic flights are available.
Arrival from Dar Es Salaam (DAR)
Multiple morning flights are offered from Dar Es Salaam. These flights often make stops at local airstrips before landing at Lobo Airstrip in the early afternoon.
Arrival from Zanzibar (ZNZ)
There is one direct flight from Zanzibar early in the morning, offering a faster flying time of 2 hours and 50 minutes (availability may be limited). Additionally, non-direct flight routes are available for morning departures.
Charter Flights
For all the aforementioned flight routes, private charter aircraft are available, allowing direct connections to Lobo Airstrip without any stops en route. Charter flights provide the comfort of a private, pressurized cabin, with no luggage weight restrictions and the flexibility to land at Lobo Airstrip during daylight hours (sunset falls between 6:30 pm and 7:00 pm seasonally). Local Airlines and Luggage Restrictions
Local airlines, such as Air Excel, Coastal Aviation, Regional Air, Auric Air, and Flightlink, utilize aircraft like Cessna Grand Caravans or similar models, accommodating 9 to 13 passengers. Luggage restrictions include a maximum of 15 kg per passenger, and bags must be soft-sided (no hard shell cases).
